Walkthrough: Talon Ultimate From Logicube

Welcome to Logicube’s tutorial on the Talon Ultimate. Featuring Logicube’s advanced technology, the Talon Ultimate provides high-performance forensic imaging at a price point that fits budget-constrained organisations without sacrificing state-of-the-art features and benefits.

The Talon Ultimate achieves speeds of up to 40GB / minute. The solution images and verifies concurrently to reduce the overall processing time. Image from a single source drive or a network repository to up to four destination drives simultaneously. A gigabit Ethernet port allows you to image to or from a network repository.

Software options available for Talon Ultimate include the Multi-Task option, to activate the second SATA source port and provide the ability to image from multiple source drives simultaneously. The SAS option activates support for SAS drives on the source and destination SATA ports.

The Logical Imaging option allows the investigator to acquire only the specific files needed. This option allows you to view and browse the root directory of a drive and select specific files to image.

We’ll now do a quick product tour of the Talon Ultimate. On the front of the unit you’ll find two USB 2.0 host ports and one USB 3.0 device port. On the rear of the unit we have a gigabit Ethernet port, an HDMI port for connection to a projector, and the DC power port.

On the left, or write-protected side, of the Talon Ultimate, we have one SATA; one Firewire; one USB 3.0; and one PCIe port. A second SATA port can be activated with the Multi-Task option.

On the right, or destination side of Talon Ultimate, we have two SATA; one USB 3.0; and one Firewire port.

The Talon Ultimate allows you to image from a single source drive up to four destinations simultaneously. With the optional Multi-Task feature, you can image from multiple source drives to multiple destinations concurrently.

Users can image from an M.2 PCIe, including NVMe drives, using optional adaptors connected to the Talon Ultimate’s PCIe source port.

The Talon Ultimate can image directly from laptops, using Logicube’s iSCSI boot disk, and can image Mac computers in target disk mode using the Firewire port.

Talon Ultimate’s user interface is easy to navigate. On the left side of the screen you’ll see all of the various operation icons, and in the middle of the screen are the setting menus for each operation.

You can connect the Talon Ultimate to a network PC and manage all operations remotely.

A Wipe feature allows you to securely sanitise destination drives using a custom pass, DoD7 pass, or secure erase.

The File Browser feature provides write-blocked preview and triage of drive contents. Logical access to source or destination drives allows users to view the drive’s partitions and contents.

Audit trail and log files provide detailed information on each task. The log files can be viewed or exported in XML, HTML or PDF format to a USB enclosure.

The Talon Ultimate allows you to secure sensitive evidence data with whole disk drive encryption, and configure custom profiles and passwords.

Once a task has begun, a progress screen appears on the screen to provide task information, including speed and the time remaining to complete.
